Services for Children
Children can be seen for individual counselling, family counselling and in a group program. Specialized group services for children include Children and Divorce and Safety Zone.
Children and Divorce
Parental separation and divorce have a strong impact on children of all ages. This period of transition can be a very stressful time for children. This eight week series of group sessions is designed for school-aged children to help them accept the separation and to adapt successfully to their new family situation. Emphasis will be placed on developing strategies to make life better for themselves. Children will be divided into two groups according to age.
These sessions run concurrently with the Parenting After Separation group.
The Safety Zone
This group program provides children, teens and their mothers with safe, nurturing environments in which they can discuss the violence and abuse they have experienced. Separate groups for children, teens and their mothers are offered at the same time.
The program supports children to heal from the effects of exposure to woman abuse and supports mothers to assist their children in this healing process.
Mothers and children (ages 4-16) are welcome.
The 12-week group runs for 2 hours each week. An Information Interview is required, prior to enrollment in the program.
There is NO FEE. Assistance for transportation and childcare is available, if required.
For detailed information please see The Safety Zone tab.
