Credit Counselling gets an additional location – and a new name
Halton Consumer Credit Counselling Service, has expanded into the Peel Region, with an opening date of

mounting debt. With our expansion comes a new name: Halton-Peel Consumer Credit Counselling.

United Way Campaigns
Halton Family Services receives the greatest proportion of its funding from the four United Ways in Halton:
the United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton, the United Way of Halton Hills, the United Way of
Milton and the United Way of Oakville. Donations from the United Ways enable us to provide help to
thousands of people each year. United Way donors are able to designate part or all of their donation to the
charity of their choice. These designated donations are added to what the agency would otherwise receive.
Designated donations to Halton Family Services enable us to provide counselling to even more vulnerable
individual children and adults, couples and families, and will be very gratefully received
Halton Family Services Receives 99% in Accreditation Review
After two and a half years of preparation, Halton Family Services has been reaccredited for the fourth time,
having scored 99% by the review team. Accreditation is granted by the Canadian Family Services
Accreditation Program operated by Family Service Ontario, and the Ontario Association of Credit
Counselling Services. An extensive self-study precedes a two-day on-site visit.
Questionnaires are sent to other community supports and services to rate the agency, and give feedback on
its operation. Board and staff also complete anonymous questionnaires.
The agency was rated on the areas of governance, administration, general program, family counselling,
credit counselling and employee assistance programs. Halton Family Services received 100% in each
of its programs: Individual, Couple and Family Counselling; Credit Counselling; and Employee
Assistance Programs. "It is very gratifying to have achieved such a high score," said Executive
Director, Nancy Brown. "The entire staff worked very hard for many months. This score is the
community's guarantee that they are using, and supporting, an outstanding agency."
