IBMHalton Family Services had the honor of being chosen by IBM Burlington to be one of two recipients of proceeds from the annual employee golf day. Part of the day was a talk on the work of the agency by Nancy Brown, Executive Director. As well as receiving a generous cheque, Halton Family Services is featured on the list of agencies across the country that IBM employees can donate to through the IBM Employee Charitable Fund.

Halton Family Services is currently completing the self-study for its reaccreditation. The self-study involves a thorough review of all aspects of the agency's functioning - administration, board governance, service programs, finances and community feedback. Reaccreditation is done every five years. Halton Family Services has been accredited by the Canadian Family Services Accreditation Program since 1983. The Halton Consumer Credit Counselling Program run by the agency is also accredited through this process. The on-site visit by the accreditation team is scheduled for the end of May 2010 with a final decision the following fall.

Halton Family Services receives the greatest proportion of its funding from the four United Ways in Halton:

  • United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton
  • United Way of Halton Hills
  • United Way of Milton
  • United Way of Oakville.

Donations from the United Ways enable us to provide help to thousands of people each year. United Way donors are able to designate part or all of their donation to the charity of their choice.

These designated donations are added to what the agency would otherwise receive. Designated donations to Halton Family Services enable us to provide counselling to even more vulnerable individual children and adults, couples and families, and will be very gratefully received.

For the second year in a row, Halton Family Services received funding from the Mercanti family’s Charity of Hope.  This year’s grant was $7,500, and will be used to help children in our Safety Zone program for children who have witnessed violence.

Many people who live in Halton will remember 2008 as a year when their personal circumstances became more challenging. Certainly, the economic downturn that has caused turmoil throughout Canada and around the world has also affected families and individuals living in Halton. When people struggle to make ends meet, the ensuing day to day pressures on families can be difficult to deal with. Halton Family Services is committed to helping people cope with these stresses, by enabling safe and healthy family environments.
